Types of cookies

Depending on their purpose, the website may use different types of cookies:

  • Technical cookies: these allow the user to browse the website and use the different options or services that exist on it, such as controlling traffic and data communication, identifying the session or accessing restricted areas.
  • Personalization cookies: these allow the user to access the service with certain predefined general characteristics such as language or the type of browser from which the user accesses it.
  • Analysis cookies: these enable the monitoring and analysis of user behaviour on the linked pages.
  • Advertising cookies: allow the effective management of advertising spaces.
  • Behavioural advertising cookies: store information obtained through the observation of browsing habits to develop a specific profile and display advertising based on the same.
  • Cookies from external social networks: these are used to facilitate the interaction of visitors between content from different social platforms. The privacy policy is regulated by each corresponding social platform.

Google Analytics:

  • utma: This cookie generates a unique user ID and records the date, first, and last time the user visited the site. It is used to count how many times a unique user visits the site. It expires 2 years from the last update (Third party analytics cookies).
  • Utmz: This cookie stores the origin of the visitor, the path followed to access the website whether it is direct access, from a link on another website, from an email link, using certain keywords in a search engine, through a display campaign, or through an AdWords ad. This cookie is used to calculate traffic coming from search engines (organic and PPC), display advertising campaigns, and navigation within the same website (internal links). The cookie is updated on each visit to the website. It expires after 6 months (third-party analytical cookies).
  • utmb: This cookie records the time of arrival on the page and expires 30 minutes after the last page view. It is automatically deleted when changing websites or closing the browser. If a user remains more than 30 minutes without activity on a website (goes to lunch, for example) and returns to request a page, it will be considered a new user session (1 unique user who makes 2 visits). To calculate how long a user stays on a page, the value of the current page is subtracted from the value of the previous page. If we modify the Google Analytics code to record events (clicks or scrolling) we can determine how long the user spent on the last page they visited. We can also modify the duration of a session with the _setSessionCookieTimeout() method. It expires 30 minutes after the last update (third-party analytical cookies).
  • utmc: No longer used. The current javascript code used by Google Analytics does not require this cookie. Previously this cookie was used together with the _utmb cookie to determine whether or not a new session should be established for the user after more than 30 minutes on the same page. This cookie is still written to ensure compatibility with websites where the old urchin.js tracking code is installed. (Third-party analytics cookies)
  • utmv: This is an optional cookie, it is only used when based on the data obtained from the registration, demographic data such as the sex or age of visitors is to be segmented later. The information is obtained through the _setVar () of the Google Analytics code. It expires 2 years after the last update.
